HCL Connections Setup

Overview

The HCL Connections Agent provides the following capabilities:

  • Extracts objects from activities, blogs, communities, dogear, files, forums, profiles and wikis along with their metadata

  • Extracts documents from HCL Content Manager

  • Extracts attached documents, such as pdf files

System Requirements

The HCL Connections Agent supports the following versions:

  • HCL Connections 6.x through 8.x

Technical User Setup

To enable the connector agent to access all data required for indexing, create a technical user with the following roles:

  • search-admin role for blogs, communities, files, forums, profiles, and wikis

  • global-moderator role for communities (required for principal traversals)

  • widget-admin role for wikis (required for principal traversals)

The technical user must be able to read all data, including secured data, from HCL Connections' search API.

Testing the Setup

To verify that the search-admin role was correctly provided, test access to the SPI URLs, for example:

https://connections.company.com/blogs/seedlist/myserver
https://connections.company.com/communities/seedlist/myserver
https://connections.company.com/files/seedlist/myserver

If configured correctly, these URLs should be accessible with the technical user credentials.
